Website builder for ecwid.com
Context
Ecwid.com is built on a custom site builder based on the Gutenberg editor from WordPress. We significantly adapted Gutenberg to fit our internal needs and turned it into a flexible content management tool for our corporate website.
My Role
I was the key contributor throughout the entire development of this product. My responsibilities included research, interface optimization, and the design of the site builder’s control panel, dashboard, and several new website sections.
Approach & Process
Our goal was to create a website that could be maintained by just one designer and one developer. To achieve this, we focused on streamlining the interface to meet the specific needs of content writers and web designers. The builder had to support flexible formatting, media management, and content reuse.
Solution
We conducted internal research to identify essential features and rebuilt Gutenberg to offer more advanced functionality for designers while keeping it simple for content editors.
During this process, we also created a new set of editor components, established a design system, optimized the existing UI, and improved accessibility.

Impact
Today, the entire site is maintained by a single developer and a single designer. Content managers and writers create and update pages directly in the editor.
We reduced website maintenance costs by 80%,
improved performance, and built a scalable system that will remain stable and efficient for years with minimal resources.
